Hello there, respected historians. This question might not fit the usual style. But I still think it had his place better here than r/travel!
Im going for two months in Turkey and already got my itinary pretty planned but im wondering if im missing something, on the historical side.
So what are the historic places you would go see in Turkey?
Oh, I've got a long list!
For towns: Safranbolu, Harran for the conical homes, Mardin and Birgi.
For ruins: Aphrodisias, Kaunos, Sagalassos, Laodikeia, Gulluk-Dagi termessos, Aspendos and finally Kekova island. Kekova is basically a paradise with ancient ruins to boot.
And then the other stuff: Catalhoyuk of course, that can't be missed! Divrigi Mosque, the Zeugma museum (I'd skip the actual site though), ishak pasha palace, Karain caves , the haci bektas veli complex, Sumela monastery, Mamure castle and finally...Demre! Demre is amazing for two reasons, the Myra rock tomb temple things and the St Nicholas church which is also there. Would highly recommend a visit even if it means going out of your way.
Also, YESEMEK HITTITE QUARRY. Basically a Hittite sculpture garden.
Cappadocia, first and foremost. Ephesus (via Ismir).
