The most well known were the 3 officers appointed Major Generals in 1898 for the war with Spain. All were ex cavalry officers under JEB Stuart, and had served with distinction.

Fitzhugh Lee (Robert E's son) was commander of the 7th Corps which was training in Florida at war's end.

Thomas Rosser spent the war recruiting and overseeing the training of US Cavalry regiments.

And the most famous Joe Wheeler commanded the Cavalry Division on V Corps which did the fighting in Cuba, and commanded the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry, the Rough Riders. After the war he went to the Philippines with MacArthur to put down the rebellion. Yes. Joeseph Wheeler in particular comes to mind and both a well known Confederate cavalry general who later commanded US Army troops (or at least volunteers) serving in Cuba in the Spanish American war and in the Philippines over 30 years later.
