[meta] What would mods and users think about adding flair to posts?

by AnakinKardashian

Sometimes when I'm bored (you know, like when I decide to go on reddit), I want to look through old AskHistorians posts. I'm interested in a lot of topics, but my biggest fascination is the ancient world. I like everything in the ancient world, but to find old posts, I have to search for "ancient" or "Greeks" or "Han" etc. It would be so much more convenient to be able to search "ancient" or even "ancient china" and go from there.

Askscience allows users to filter by field and I think that method would be great for this subreddit. The fields could be as broad as "ancient North America" or as specific as "medieval France." I just think it would make it so much easier to access the countless excellent posts on this subreddit.

I don't really know anything about subreddit design, but I imagine it would be very hard to archive old posts into these categories. At least for the future, it seems to me to be a good idea. What are your thoughts?

This comes up every once in awhile, and we have discussed it a lot among ourselves, but in the end, we just don't believe it would be practical, as there is just so much overlap between potential categories. Any half-way decent division would require dozens of them.
