I'll probably get raked across the coals for abuse of the word 'ironic' here, but the event that immediately came to mind was this.

Robert Watson Watt (1892 -1973) was a pioneer in the field of Radar technology during WW2. He and his team were able to set up aircraft detection systems known as 'Chain Home' along the British shoreline that quite probably played a key role in the outcome of the Battle of Britain.

In his 1957 autobiography Watson-Watt gives an account of how his own technology worked against him when he received a speeding ticket in 1956 from a Canadian police officer who used a radar gun to gauge his speed.

Watt wrote a poem about getting the ticket which he recited as part of a scientific address in San Francisco on 6 April 1963:

Pity Sir Watson-Watt, strange target of this radar plot and thus, with others I can mention, the victim of his own invention. His magical all-seeing eye enabled cloud-bound planes to fly but now by some ironic twist it spots the speeding motorist and bites, no doubt with legal wit, the hand that once created it.
