Was just appreciating the Irish countryside & imaged what it looks like from a satellite. How did people first react to these images?
Do you mean a picture of the planet itself, or simply aerial images taken from a great height?
My expertise relates a bit more to the former, so I'll expand on that.
The first picture of the earth from space is thought to be a partial shot taken in 1946.
The first full picture of the earth is from a satellite (ATS-3, 1967). A few other pictures followed from the same source.
The famous "Blue Marble" shot (1972) represents the first clear photograph in which Earth is in full view. It was taken by the crew of Apollo 17 on the way to the moon. Since this was the USA's last trip that had humans on the moon, people reacted fairly strongly, and in a variety of ways. The "Blue Marble" shot was widely shared and sparked a new surge of environmentalism.
