You might be interested in the story of Sgt. Léo Major of La Regiment de la Chaudière during WWII. Major, then a Private, along with Corporal Wilfrid Arsenault, was sent to reconnoitre the Dutch city of Zwolle. During their approach, Cpl. Arsenault was killed and Pte. Major continued the advance alone. Once he was in the city proper, he managed to, through liberal application of automatic weapons fire and hand grenades, convince the occupying German forces that a much larger Canadian detachment was storming the city, and they fled.
