I would just like to point out for general concern (since several of the articles I have seen have completely misinterpreted this) that radiocarbon dating doesn't give you an exact date, but rather a confidence interval of years (in this case, A.D. 568 to A.D. 645) in which the object likely dates to. Given this, the Quran in question doesn't actually date to before Mohammed as some of the reporting has suggested.
This does push back dates on the earliest compiled and written Quran, but still within the lifetime or shortly after the death of Mohammed. Radiocarbon dating should supplement existing archaeological and historical data.
