Looking for some good sources on the history of WWII resistance, particularly what life was like being directly/indirectly involved with partisan groups and their operations in German occupied territory, in particular France but the USSR will do as well.
Any other sources/material are greatly appreciated.
I unfortunately only know about the Jewish part in the various resistance movements, mostly on the Eastern front, but if it helps, books I can recommend would be:
Bielski Brothers: The True Story of Three Men who Defied the Nazis, saved 1,200 Jews and Built a Village in the Forest, by Peter Duffy
Jewish Resistance During the Holocaust: Moral Uses of Violence and Will, James Glass.
The War of the Doomed: Jewish Armed Resistance in Poland 1942-1944, Shmuel Krakowski
the famous Defiance: The Bielski Partisans, Nechama Tec
A Partisan's Memoir: Woman of the Holocaust, Faye Schuman and Sarah Silberstein Swartz
Behind Enemy Lines: The True Story of a French Jewish Spy in Nazi Germany, Marthe Cohn and Wendy Holden
Jewish Partisan Poems and Stories from WWII, Jack Porter
Surviving the Holocaust with the Russian Jewish Partisans, Jack Kagan
A Secret Press in Nazi Europe: The Story of a Jewish Partisan Organisation, Isaac Kowalski
They Chose Life: Jewish Resistance in the Holocaust, Yehuda Bauer
The Minsk Ghetto: Soviet-Jewish Partisans against the Nazis, Hersh Smoler
Biancastella: A Jewish Partisan in WWII, Harry Burger
A Voice from the Forest: Memoirs of a Jewish Partisan, Nahum Kohn
Do Not Go Gentle: A Memoir of Jewish resistance in Poland, 1941-1945, Charles Gelman
Jewish Resistance During the Holocaust, Herbert Druks
Jewish Partisans of Eastern Europe, Moshe Kaganovitch
Paula's Window: Papa, the Bielski Partisans and a Life Unexpected, Paula Burger
Destine to Live: Memoirs of a Doctor with the Russian Partisans but ugh, who was the author
No Time to Mourn: The True Story of a Jewish Partisan Fighter, Majorie Morris and Leon Kahn
With the Bielski Partisans, Dov Cohen
Rescue as Resistance: How Jewish Organisations fought the Holocaust in France, Lucien Lazare
The Youngest Partisan: A Young Boy Who Fought the Nazis, A. Romi Cohn
The Witch Doctor: Memoirs of a Partisan, Michael Temchin.
The non Jewish focused ones include The Nazi War Against the Soviet Partidans, 1941-1944, Matthew Cooper; Stalin's Guerrillas: Soviet Partisans in World War II, Kenneth Slepyan, The Shadow War: European Resistance 1939-1945, Henri Michel, The War Behind the Eastern Front: the Soviet partisan movement in Northwest Russia, 1941-1944, Alexander Hill and finally The Partisans: Secret Armies of World War Two, David Mountfield.
My Diary of the Vercors by J. La Picirella gives an interesting view into the life of a Maquisard.
Vercors 1944 by Peter Lieb is more of a unit history of a specific engagement.
Resistance in Vichy France by H.R. Kedward gives a much broader view. Anything by Kedward is going to be pretty good.
I'm a bit late but:
Resisting Hitler by Shareen Brysac and The Red Orchestra by Gilles Perrault are both about the Red Orchestra resistance movement within Germany. Not quite partisans but The Freedom Line by Peter Eisner is about the men and women who smuggled downed pilots out of Nazi occupied Europe and back to England.
