looking for text books or good reference book titles about European armor smithing

by stunspore

Hello askhistorians!, it may be a long shot but I've been trying forever to find some comprehensive/dense books about Armor. ranging from about 600bce to 1400ce. Usually when I ask at book stores I end up following the clerk to the kids sections to eyewitness books "this is a knight. this is a sword." I'm looking for books that compare why the French did gauntlets one way but not like the Germans, a tome built like a bible.

edit: I figured I would ask about it here instead of r/books just because there is 432k people here interested in history, instead of the broad spectrum of all books.

The Knight and the Blast Furnace by Alan Williams is an excellent look at the process of making metal armour.
