I've been a Marxist for a good portion of my life, but even I have a hard time reconciling the stories I've been told of the Stalinist era Soviet Union with what this article tells as the truth. So, which, if either, narrative is more accurate, or do both poorly represent the situation in the USSR under Stalin?
