The simple answer to this is, no. In the rural South a church was an important social institution and most people would belong to one. They either belonged to a church that did not see slavery as bad, or , if there was a difference of opinion within their denomination as to whether slavery was good or bad, the denomination split. The Methodists and the Presbyterians split into northern and southern branches, for example. The Episcopalians had little objection to slavery ( it was the biggest denomination in the South) and only split during the Civil War.
