Well, that was the Norse in Vinland. Relations with the Thule (i.e., Inuit), whom they called Skrælings, were largely violent, though some trade occurred. To the extent that there was a transformation, it might be described as one from tentative attempts at economic exchange to small-scale warfare. There is little to nothing which may be said or even conjectured regarding the language contact which occurred, as the Sagas on which we depend for information are not contemporaneous to these events.
