In the late 70s, one of the more popular history professors on campus taught medieval studies and he consistently required Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, Montaillou: The Promised Land of Error which had been translated and published in English in 1978. It was all he rage, but most students didn't read the entire book. I found that I could invariably walk up to a table in the library where one of the professor's students had his/her books, I could pick up Montaillou and balance it on its spine, and it would always open to the chapter on sex. Sex sells, and if no other chapters were read, that one was. Repeatedly.

I expect this to be a popular META.

Rubs hands together gleefully. Bring on the questions about Freud, his Psychosexual Development & Alfred Kinsey. Woohoo!
