My dad carried this photo in his wallet for years. Can anyone give me some context for its origins? Link in post.

Dad died three years ago. He was 80; and carried this photo in his wallet since we don't know when. Can anyone here help give us some context for it? He was born in 1932 in Spain's Basque Country. He never served in the Spanish or French militaries so we know he's not in it.

Straightened it out a bit, might help. The right side is blurry because the photo is taken at an angle. You might have better luck if the 4th guy's face isn't blurry.

Based on the berets they are wearing, it looks like they might have been part of the Eusko Gudarostea, the Basque Army that fought against the Spanish Nationalists during the Civil War between 1937 and 1939. Compare to this photo. They indeed were resistance fighters against Franco around the city of Bilbao in 1938-39.
