im currently in my last year of secondary school (UK) and am applying to Unis this year most i am interested in doing a history degree but i've heard job prospects aren't that great , i am interested in pairing my course with economics but there are only a few schools which offer this and they are either really good (oxford) or not universities i'm interested in going to. so my question.. is it worth doing a history degree or would it be better for me to study say economics and politics and just read history for recreation ?
Instead of focusing on the degree itself - What do you want to do after university? What sort of job would you like to get? How would you like to spend your time?
Focus on answering that, and then it's be much easier to figure out which degree would best suit you.
If you want to be a Ph.D in history or a teacher, study history. If not, do something else. History degrees give you a ton of skills that will make you a better thinker but not give you much that is truly marketable in today's work world.
