Early 20th Century N. America, Childs' company?

by Locusts

My mom has some pictures that she want's to know more about. It's in Philadelphia, 1914. This is one of 3 pictures she has of the scene. Does anyone know anything about Childs'? Any information would be useful, thanks!

Yes I do! They were a carriage maker that went by the name Wilson Childs & Co. My great-great grandfather and great-great-great grandfather both worked there as wheelwrights. The shop was located at 2nd & Hancock Sts in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. I have more information available, I'll try to look it up for you. I believe there's even a model of one of the carriages in the family that either was or is on loan to the Atwater Kent Museum.

That's a group photo from 1885, along with the back showing that it's from the company. Then there's a photo of the model of the wagon, and lastly an old newspaper clipping from The Evening Bulletin showing it on display at the Atwater Kent Museum. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you would like any more info.
