Let's count the ways this video differs radically from many historical videos.

1. It's old, very old, from WWI.
2. It's not the typical "history channel" edited sequence of tiny clips of "some guy firing artillery" or "guys going over the top" that could easily be from any battle or even just a training exercise.
3. It shows the confusion and reversal of fortune.
4. It is not from so far away you can barely make out the people.
5. It's not a "first person" view, but a side on view. The Afghan war has produced a lot of Go Pro footage of US troops shooting thousands of rounds at some invisible target. For all you can see, they may perhaps just be shooting at trees.

History of war tends to be very dry in the sense of regurgitating the memoirs of Generals and scratching through the logistics paper trail.

This video strips that view aside and shows something much more immediate.
