On page one of a 1943 US government document, it says: "The Axis strategy is to use starvation to beat conquered peoples into submission. The United Nations' food strategy is to build with food new power to throw against the Axis"
What? The UN was founded in 1945! A quick wikipedia search couldn't answer this for me, so I thought I'd throw this out there, perhaps giving any scholars of international diplomacy a chance to talk about the creation of international communities in the course of WW2 or prior . . . Anyone able to help?

The allied powers in World War Two were often referred to as the United Nations. The modern UN is named after the United Nations declaration in 1942.
