I am curious what, if any, cultural, political, social and historical impact the Italian colonization and occupation of their former African colonies has had? Is there any cultural legacy left? Any and all replies are welcome!
Libyan Arabic has hundreds of Italian loanwords, mostly technical nouns. A lot of them have to do with cars, bicycles, and other technology that became prevalent in the colonial period, but there are also words for food items, suits and numbers of playing cards, and various others. Many of them have spread into other nearby dialects in Egypt and the Levant.
