Knives and clubs were used extensively in trench raiding. Also, at last at the beginning of the war, cavalry units were equipped with cavalry sabres and/or lances.

The fighting in Africa was mostly conducted by the soldiers of the colonial powers and their native soldiers. They wouldn't have been using bows and arrows. There is only one person I can think of in either world war that used a bow and arrow and a sword and that's Mad Jack Churchill in WWII.
