Are there any descriptions, paintings, drawings, or even physical models of family homes lived in by European lower-class families from the years 1000-1800?
Example: a home lived in by a lower-class English family in the year 1287.
There are the houses in Stratford-upon-Avon, in the UK that (in the case of Shakespeare's birthplace at least) were lived in by people from a fairly modest place in society. I cannot, off the top of my head think of houses from the poorest in society surviving all that well. In my native Derbyshire there are many examples of the remains of the stone cottages that served as shepherd's homes, often into the early 20th century, but every one of them is at best dilapidated, due to planning and conservation constraints.
It may at first sound like a strange suggestion, but in fact the descriptions in Dickens, Balzac, and Dumas were often very thorough and accurate.
