More than anything else, they wanted a return the Shah for trial (and execution). And no wonder, because he was a harsh despot installed by the CIA.

That alone would've resolved things. The other demands were freeing up the frozen assets and an apology for overthrowing the elected government. That last one wasn't ever happening, not in Iran, not in Chile (even worse despot installed there), not anywhere.
