I want to make a as historically accurate as possible viking shield, suit of armor, set of clothing, etc. Do you guys know any historically accurate and detailed depiction of a viking equipment.
Or maybe you can give me info like should I make the shield with one big board or planks ? What type of ringmails ? The historical accuracy is really the most important for me, not comfort or budget.
I also do plan on buying a shield boss, an ace head and a spear head since I don't have access to a forge. Would you recommend any historical artisans for this ?
Could you give a more specific sense of what you mean by 'viking'? What part of Europe would your persona be from? What date would he (I assume you're asking about male clothing?) have lived? How wealthy would he be?
In the meantime, I would recommend visiting this forum for information about modern reproductions of medieval weapons; most of the best modern swordsmiths are quite active there, and you can find many reviews and recommendations for various price points, as well as getting a general sense of what the better (more historically accurate) end of the reproduction market looks like. Most of the folks there are interested in swords, but you'll find some excellent viking spears, shields, and knives if you search through the archives. I might also be able to point you toward some starting points and more specific resources, depending on the details of what precisely you're trying to achieve.
