Is the "don't light three cigarettes at the same time" warning true?

by JASON9818

One of the things I hear about WW1 is that soldiers are not allowed to light three cigarettes at the same time because when the first cigarette is lighted, the enemy sniper notices the smoke, when the second cigarette is lit, the sniper aims his rifle and when the third cigarette is lit, the sniper pulls the trigger. Is this true?

As a follow up: wouldn't the burning cigarettes give them away anyway?
