As the title says, what is the history of the drug cartels, beyond the bigger guys in South America like the Medellín drug cartel, and Pablo Escobar. I am interested more in the cartels in central america and mexico (both north and south). If this is to broad, then the northern area of mexico would be preferred. Thank You In Advance (TIA)
I know this is late, but I just got back from Sicario and was looking at some threads and noticed your question. The best place to begin is with episodes from Frontline. Old episodes are on PBS's website. There was one recently about the cartel boss El Chapo Guzman. The investigative journalism of Frontline is superb. I think you'll find it interesting.
