Why is "İstanbul'un Kurtuluşu" or the liberation of Istanbul celebrated on October 6th? I'm not aware of any significant fighting in Istanbul in October 1923.
You are right. There was not fighting in Istanbul. October 6 is the day Turkish armies reenter the city took control of it following Allied Powers (mainly England) left the city on October 2 after 5 years of invasion.
