Why are most Mexicans mestizos, but very few Americans are of both White and Native American ancestry?

Spanish immigration was mostly male, and mostly focused on making money, for example from silver or gold mining. Though they did appropriate native land they did not greatly ( initially) displace the native population. Lacking a lot of Spanish-born women, they tended to marry into it.

Immigration to North American colonies by the English and Europeans was by whole families, who may have hoped to find the Northwest Passage or a mountain of gold but mostly became farmers. They thus tended to displace the native population from their lands, and not marry into it.
