Mythbusters did some experiments on the credibility of the "quicksand" concept, and concluded that quicksand did not exist in the way it is portrayed in the movies. It's just a myth. A mixture of sand and water can be somewhat viscous, but it is impossible to sink in it, as it is much heavier than the human body.
