A friend and I are watching a documentary right now and got to thinking. One, is it possible people escaped? Two, If they did, did they survive? We are really interested in learning more about this.
On December 16 1962, two young men John Paul Scott and Darl Lee Parker escaped Alcatraz early in the morning by bending the bards near the latrine in their cell block. The two proceed to slide down a rope down the wall were Parker broke his ankle and couldn't continue any longer and was captured on the rock formation but for Scott he was able to make it to the water and swim a mile and a half to the shore by the golden gate bridge at Fort Point. He was later found unconscious by some teenagers and was later arrested. This made him the only man in the prisons history to escape from the island prison successfully. Now as for other escapes, there have been a total of 14 escape attempts which ended with 23 of them being recaptured without even leaving the rock or while swimming, six were shot, 3 drowned, and 5 unknowns or presumed drowned. So all in all, only one person has made it off the island alive.

I watched the same documentary last night, and it seems that it was highly likely they survived. That picture was convincing enough for me to believe it was all real. Now someone needs to get on a plane and search for them down in Brazil.
