Sorry for possibly misleading title, but i can't really sum it up well.
I've heard some stories that in a Hindu-Muslim conflict, the Hindus used lard to lubricate their firearms because it was sacrilegious to the Muslims, and at the same time the Muslims would have used fat from cow to lubricate theirs.
Is there any truth to this story or is it just a legend?
In the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857, one of the main issues that caused it to start was because the British military used beef tallow and pork lard to grease the cartridges used in the Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle. The beef tallow offended the Hindu soldiers and the pork lard offended the Muslim soldiers.
