This is my first post on Reddit, so if I did something wrong I'm sorry.
I would just like to know more info about the compass, and how it was used.
It has US Engineer Corps marked on it. I do k ow that the US supplied and trained the White Army before leaving the conflict.
If someone could fill me in on how the compass is used, and why my GG would have this I would appreciate it so much. Thanks!!
Early model Lensatic Compass. You open the lid so it is vertical, look thru the V notch, align with the small line on the glass lid, aim at whatever (target, place you want to go, whatever) look down at the red arrow, and that is the azimuth (magnetic) to whatever you are aiming at. Standard military issue compass for the time. Still issued, in some form/model to this day. Have a 90's version myself.
Thanks for the response. I've been considering hiking the AT and I would love to make use of it.
Were this issued to everyone, or was it only those in charge? I could imagine that it would be costly to issue one to everyone.
