This year, Indigenous Day was probably more popular on social media than the actual Columbus Day holiday.
First, the whole point behind Indigenous Day, and having it coincide with Columbus Day, is that Christopher Columbus should not be celebrated or honored with a holiday.
There tons of threads in this sub that provide varying levels of insight. The short version is, yes, this guy was a terrible terrible person, even when judged against the cultural standards of the time.
I've yet to see a convincing argument otherwise.
