I read somewhere that Franz Ferdinand, more famously known for his assassination setting off WWI, was a hunting enthusiast. Actually I've heard that he was positively voracious, using special rail cars to hunt from.
Yep; his hunting lodge at Mayerling (where his cousin, Karl-Rudolf, committed suicide) is replete with trophies of his many hunts. Norman Davies mentions in his book Europe: A History that two visits by him to the Bialowieza(?) Forest in Poland nearly drove local populations of Wisent (European Bisons) to extinction. He would set up a machine gun in a clearing, and have his retainers herd the animals into the 'kill zone'.
