Help with knowing the legitimacy of this Nazi Germany medal.

by mattvaughn12

My apologies if this is not the correct subreddit for asking this, for I am not too sure where else to go. I purchased this (http://imgur.com/a/rsMJf) Nazi Germany medal from a gentleman at a gun and knife show a few months back. He had a couple tables with cases of medals and patches, books and uniforms from WW2 and other wars. He seemed very knowledgeable about it, and even pointed out the manufacturers stamping on the ring. I'm a big WW2 buff and would like to start collecting memorabilia. Are there any books or websites that anyone could also recommend to educate myself with? Thank you for all your help!

Sadly i can't help you with books regarding collecting memorabilia. But i can tell you that you have most likely purchased the military version of the War Merit Cross Second Class. This medal could be awarded to civilians (without swords) for "meritorious service" in the war effort or to military personel (with swords) for exceptionel service (e.g. in logistics). Note that it is no award for bravery like the iron cross.
