Was the USA embarrassed with the Philippine-American War or is it just a dark part of their history that they don't want to bring it up?

Asking this because I learned about it through Game Theory and found that only a portion of people know about the war. It seemed to me that the US Education system in hiding something from their history that they won't share to kids.

The war is explicitly included in the AP US history standards (and has been for some time), but it's covered fairly briefly. It generally hasn't been part of state level standards, so students not taking advanced courses probably would not hear about it.

I believe it is explicitly mentioned in the new common core standards (used by 45 states), but to hard for me to find on mobile at this moment.
