I'm from Lithuania and from the start, the schools hammered the idea that 'Lithuania's a peaceful country! We only ever defended against evil wrongdoers!' into my head, and today I got to wondering whether that's actually true because it sounds silly, but I can't really find much evidence either way.
Lithuania literally occupied Klaipėda and it's territories in 1923. Before that, it was ethnically mostly German and called Memel (Klaipėda) and Memelland (territory).
Gediminas conquered Ruthenian lands (modern day Belarus and Ukraine) in 13th century. In fact a lot of the expansion of Grand Duchy was not really peaceful.
