My grandfather has Alzheimer's and loved watching the History/Military channels. He now doesn't have the attention span (or is even awake long enough) to watch a full program.
I found a fun little article (300 words) on mental floss about giving Sears products to spies instead of cash. He was able to pay attention long enough to understand the article and LOVED it. He read it 4 times in a row, laughing each time.
I was hoping for any recommendations on books, articles, whatever that have short stories preferably 200-500 words regarding history and military history. I printed out one that was 700ish, but that seemed a little much. Anything more than 300 is a little iffy, but worth a shot.
Any help is welcome. I finally found something he can pick up and read (I copy these articles and make the font a bit bigger for him) on his own and enjoy it.
Thank you all in advance. You guys rock!
Perhaps not exactly what you're after but it could be worth just having a look on wikipedia or newspaper reviews of books etc. for topics that you know he was interested in? My Dad does similar things for my Grandad in regards to news/sports news where he pulls out a few key articles during the week and copies them out in to large font to give him over the weekend.
You could get a subscription for him to Mental Floss - I love that periodical and it's full of fun (short) info, articles and facts. Good for the brain :)
There is a magazine called "Reminisce" that he would probably like a lot.
It may get boring for you but you may be able to reread stories/articles or rematch TV shows that he enjoys as he will probably forget ever watching or seeing them. My mother-in-law had Alzheimer and loved watching re-runs of the Lawrence Welk show. Good luck, be patient and enjoy any moments you can with him, I know I did with her.
