Κρόνος and Χρόνος are technically two different things, but were associated with each other due to folk etymologies and certain similarities as primal forces. The former is mentioned by Hesiod as the son of Uranus and Gaia. He is the leader of the Titans in Hesiod and the father by his sister Rhea of the Olympians. Χρόνος, however, is the word for time--whether one could call him a god is hard to say, as in many traditions he is purely a force of nature without any individual characteristics, but he is certainly no Titan, though both Time and the Titans are primal in nature. Both figures were presented as primal deities by many traditions, and by the Roman Period were often closely associated with one another. Orphic cults in particular equated the two, basing their interpretation on the similarities between the names (pure folk etymology) and their similarities as primal forces, and thereby believed that the Titan Κρόνος was an allegory of Time. This identification became particularly popular when it was exposed to the Romans, who associated this allegorical assimilation with the native Italian god Saturn, and this became by the Middle Ages rather a popular interpretation of the relationship between Κρόνος, Χρόνος, and Saturn--hence the medieval idea of "Father Time" and the rather nice philosophical allegory that Time swallows its children
