Hey, I'm looking for book suggestions that argue against his thesis that there is a definitive 'Western Way of War', couldn't see anything in the subreddit's reading list and he is pretty one sided so doesn't reference opposing views well in his book. Does anyone know of any?
The single best response to Hanson's interpretation of Greek warfare, in my opinion, is Hans van Wees' book, 'Greek Warfare: Myths and Realities'. An excellent book. There is also a book called 'Men of Bronze' edited by Donald Kagan and Gregory F. Viggiano which is the proceeding of a conference on hoplite warfare and the phalanx incorporating a wide array of opinions and a concise update on the debate as it stands.
