If you just started your education at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina (on track to becoming better prepared for Officer training prior to West Point), and you were suddenly drafted, could your drafting cancel that military career path of yours and push you into becoming an enlisted instead of chasing the Officer's dream? Wouldn't the Government be wasting someone with leadership material if they did that without letting him complete his goals?
What if you also applied for West Point to be trained as an officer, and you were suddenly drafted before you even got accepted/declined from West Point?
Could you be drafted and given an IA while you're training in West Point, and they pull you out to become an enlisted and not let you complete your training in becoming a 2nd Lieutenant?
There was in general the normal Student Deferment that most all men attending college, but there was also a separate classification for students taking military training, sot hat would have covered students at a Senior Military College like The Citadel, along with students enrolled in ROTC at most schools.
