The mass aerial bombing of Germany and Japan targeted their major cities and killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, but did these air raids ever manage to kill any important Axis personnel?
Very few — in fact, the only one that immediately comes to mind is Roland Freisler, the judge-president of the People's Court, who died in a raid in February 1945. But the objective of mass strategic bombing (on both sides) during the war wasn't really to decapitate enemy leadership — it was to attack economic and industrial infrastructure and undermine civilian morale.
