I assume you are talking about the US market place. If anything it helped introduce and boost the popularity of the product to new markets. Popular in business school case studies, the story of Nissin foods inventing and bringing instant ramen to the US and worldwide markets is widely attributed to bringing the large upsurge to ramen consumption in general. I don't know if you can find many restaurants that served traditional ramen in the US before then. Now it seems ramen exclusive restaurants are blowing up in every city. My theory is this is the result of instant ramen lovers who consumed the products at a younger age now using their disposable incomes to get the 'real thing.'
