I don't have accurate examples, but I want to have understanding of not just what things have happened when, but also gain insight into how events affected people and the impact they have caused today. For example, for philosophy i am listening to a podcast called philosophize this.
P.s. apologies if this is not an appropriate question for the subreddit.
If you are reading a good historical account it really should address these wider issues. A history that is just a recounting of "facts" or a narrative without any contextualization or attempt to understand the past in any broader sense is a pretty poor history.
I would suggest just picking an area of history that interests you and asking for suggestions here about what historians consider the best work on that subject, perhaps in the Saturday Reading and Research thread.
