Obviously there is not only one single reason for it. Especially since it's the result of a centuries-long decline.

There are certainly good arguments to the claim that the introduction of Christianity weakened or at least destabilized the Western Empire, but the fact it didn't really do so in the Eastern one proves it wasn't such a decisive factor.
