What was the likely fate of the treasures taken from the Great Pyramids by grave-robbers? Would the gold have been melted down, or is it conceivable that they might exist in some measure somewhere today?
I hope you don't mind me piggybacking a little, but your question made me wonder. Why have looters of artifacts melted them down for their gold or silver, surely they would be worth more in their manufacturered state?
