I have a related question - how was television discussed after it was in common use but in places where it was yet to become active? I understand Australia did not have TV until 1956 and wonder what the public pressure was given t was already widespread in the United States.

My Father was stationed at Governors Island NYC with the US Coast Guard. I don't know the year (1949?) but the NYC market must have been one of the most developed TV markets? As a first hand member of the general public I would expect his response meets reddit rules? I had asked this question of my Father years ago and here is a paraphrased response. "I thought it was a fade" "All that was on was baseball games and the picture was terrible, you could to a Yankees game go in person for less than a dollar" "The only other programming was a show called Circus Circus which was a Circus on TV" His comment on the ball game may have to do with USO free tickets for servicemen?
