Why is there so much French in modern Farsi?

by PurpleChyGuy

Farsi is my second language and it's always surprising to find out a word here or there that I've been using has been French all along.

I know colonialism has to do with it, but France never really had a military presence in Iran like England did so I'm curious how did the French language start influencing Farsi and why French over all others?

Colonialsm doesn't have anything to do wth it actualy: Its not very complicated but for a while French was the "international language" not English. And also French became popular with Nasseriddin Shah's visit to France.the French also established couple of French language missionay schools there
