Did W.E.B Du Bois and Marcus Garvey differ primarily over ideas of Africa, or over ideas of liberation?

by donked55

I understand the differences in terms of Dubois’s Pan-African ideology and Marcus Garvey’s back-to-Africa movement. But is that liberation or ideas of Africa?

Am I wrong? Is it something different?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Could you clarify? Are you asking whether or not Dubois' and Garvey thought different things about Africa as a Continent or as an Ideology?

Garvey is referring to a literal return back to Africa. Setting up colonies or moving to lands sold to them by the Liberian Government (Which later fell through) while Dubois is referring to a much larger ideology, a Pan-African thought which encompassed all black peoples across the world, in Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas.
