Well both countries only had limited white male property owning suffrage at that time. A few states had full white male suffrage by 1800. But by modern standards neither was a democracy at all.

One major difference is that the newly created United States had dual sovereignty. This is state governments and the federal government. This was also a main cause of the revolutionary war. I do not know how the British government was run or how parliament worked very much even if at all.
