I'm looking for a text transcription of the George Washington papers in order to search. If there is a resource online that includes a search option that's great, but even just a text version would be great. Any help is appreciated.
Yes, the entire George Washington Papers project is online! It's part of the National Archives's Founders Online site. Transcriptions of Washington's papers, diaries, letters, etc. were published as a 64-volume edition. You can browse an online version of the entire thing for free here.
It's also searchable. Search using the search box on the home page, but be sure to include: Project:"Washington Papers" with your search. So, if I wanted to make a search for the term "slavery" but wanted to limit the results to the Washington papers only, I'd type this in the search box:
slavery Project:"Washington Papers"
(Note that there are no spaces on either side of the colon.) You can limit the results further by the facets (author, date, etc.) on the right side of the page of results.
